Highlands On-The-Go Software Options

Overview

In order to access the FREE Highlands On-The-Go service, you will need one of the following "offline reader programs" installed on your Palm or PocketPC handheld computer. These programs allow you to view the web page content that has been stored on your handheld computer. The matrix below describes each of the offline reader programs that have been tested and proven to be compatible with the Highlands On-The-Go service.

With AvantGo, you can get thousands of specially formatted brand-name web sites ("channels") on your PDA. Even create your own custom channels to download family sites, local news, niche sites, church and club sites, workout schedules, etc… so you're always in touch, even on the go. Just sync 'n go from your desktop. Getting great websites couldn't be easier!

Pros: Easiest to set-up, access to other pre-designed"channels", free.

Cons: Not as feature rich as other offline readers. Must view advertisements each time you synchronize.

iSilo ™ is a highly versatile document reader available for Palm OS®, Pocket PC, and Windows® CE handhelds, as well as for Windows® computers.

You can create your own documents from HTML content using iSiloX . Some of the major features: High text compression, Hyperlinks, Images, Tables, Formatted text, VFS support on Palm OS®.

Pros: Fairly easy to set-up, advanced formatting including tables.

Cons: Not free.

Plucker is an offline Web and eBook viewer for Palm OS® based handheld devices and PDAs that let you decide exactly what part of the web that you want to view on your PDA. Plucker is Free Software and that means that you can use it without charge, you can give it away to others, and that you can even modify the program (or pay others to do it for you) to customize it or add the features you want.

Vade Mecum (Latin for "go with me" ) is the first-ever Plucker document viewer for the Pocket PC. It is a complete redesign and rewrite of the original PalmOS version of the viewer. Vade Mecum's primary goal is 100% feature compatibility with the official Plucker viewer, which means it will be able to view any Plucker document that the official viewer can.

JPluck converts web sites to Plucker documents for offline reading on your handheld. With JPluck on your desktop and a Plucker-compatible reader on your handheld, you can carry the web in the palm of your hand!
JPluck is Java-based and runs on every platform where Java 1.4.1 is available.
