Configuration for Highlands On-The-Go

Overview

In order to receive Highlands On-The-Go content on your handheld computer, you will need to properly configure the offline reader program you have selected and installed. This page will instruct you on the proper settings needed to configure your offline reader.

Note: Please refer to the software developer's documentation for instructions on how to install the content content converter program on your PC and the offline reader software on your handheld computer. These instructions focus on configuring the offline reader to access Highlands On-The-Go, they do not explain software installation for each offline reader.

Instructions: AvantGo | iSilo | Plucker/Vade Mecum

Configuration for the AvantGo offline reader:

Users of AvantGo will need to set-up a "Custom Channel" for the Highlands On-The-Go service. To create the custom channel:

  1. Login to your AvantGo account (AvantGo website: http://www.avantgo.com)
  2. Click on the "My Account" tab on the right-hand side of the page
  3. Under the "Subscriptions" heading, click on the "Create a custom channel" link
  4. Use the following settings:
    • Title: Highlands On-The-Go
    • Location: http://www.hcofc.org/offline/
    • Link Depth: 3
    • Include Images: Yes
    • Follow Off-Site Links: No
    • Refresh Channel: Once Daily at 5:00am
  5. Click the "Save Channel" button
  6. Synchronize your handheld computer with your PC

Configuration for the iSilo offline reader:

Users of iSilo will need to set-up a new "Document" for the Highlands On-The-Go service. To create the document:

  1. On your PC, open iSiloX, the content converter program for the iSilo offline reader
  2. Select "Add..." from the Document menu
  3. Under Title type "Highlands On-The-Go"
  4. Select (add checkmark next to) the "Go to the document properties dialog next" option
  5. Click the "Next" button
  6. Under Source add the URL "http://www.hcofc.org/offline/"
  7. Under Destination choose the name of your handheld computer
  8. Under Links set "Maximum Link Depth" to "3", and "Follow Offsite Links" to "No" (not checked)
  9. Under Margins select "Ignore only left and right margins specified on body, division, and paragraph blocks" and "Ignore all left and right padding"
  10. Under Document select "Page Boundaries: Hard (Do not allow scrolling across page boundaries)"
  11. Under Scheduling add a new schedule of "Daily at 5:00am"
  12. Click the "OK" button
  13. Click the "Convert All" button
  14. Synchronize your handheld computer with your PC

Note: For auto-update of Highlands On-The-Go content to occur, you must make iSilo part of your start-up items. This will launch iSilo each time you turn on your PC and download the latest website updates.

Configuration for the Plucker/Vade Mecum offline readers:

Users of Plucker/Vade Mecum will need to set-up a new "Document" for the Highlands On-The-Go service. To create the document:

  1. On your PC, open JPluck, the content converter program for the Plucker/Vade Mecum offline readers
  2. Select "Add..." from the Document menu
  3. Choose "Add New Site" from the dialog box
  4. Click the "OK" button
  5. Under Name type "Highlands On-The-Go"
  6. Under URL type "http://www.hcofc.org/offline/"
  7. Under Max. Depth select "3"
  8. Under Restrict To select "domain"
  9. Under Destination choose the name of your handheld computer
  10. Under Schedule choose "daily" at "5:00am"
  11. Using the Formatting Tab, set the maximum image color depth and size for your handheld computer
  12. Select (add checkmark next to) the "Convert now" option
  13. Click the "OK" button
  14. Synchronize your handheld computer with your PC

Note: For auto-update of Highlands On-The-Go content to occur, you must enable the Auto-Update features of JPluck. Follow the instructions available on the JPluck website.
