Ecclesiastes 1:1-15

October 15, 2006
Speaker: Randal Myers

Building a Life of Purpose

When I don't know my purpose:

  • Life Seems Useless
    • “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.”
      Ecclesiastes 1:2
  • Life Seems Tiresome
    • All things are wearisome, more than one can say.
      Ecclesiastes 1:8
  • Life Seems Unfulfilling
    • The eye never has enough of seeing, nor the ear its fill of hearing.
      Ecclesiastes 1:8
  • Life Seems Insignificant
    • There is no remembrance of men of old, and even those who are yet to come will not be remembered by those who follow.
      Ecclesiastes 1:11
  • Life Seems Uncontrollable
    • What is twisted cannot be straightened; what is lacking cannot be counted.
      Ecclesiastes 1:15

God designed a life for us:

  • Relationship
    • Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: `Love your neighbor as yourself.’
      Mark 12:28-31
  • Reproduction
    • Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit…
      Matthew 28:19-20
  • Rehearsal
    • The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Galatians 6:8
