"If Christianity is untrue, then it's unimportant.
However, if Christianity is true then it is of utmost importance. The only thing
Christianity cannot be is moderately important." - C.S. Lewis
Make a Commitment
- For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those
whose hearts are fully committed to him. - 2 Chronicles 16:9
- But finding people fully committed to God is getting harder and harder especially
in our country.
- Robert Bellow, Sociology Professor at U.S.C., in 1985, wrote a book
called Habits Of The Heart, in which he says basically that we
have discovered that Americans are committed to nothing. What they are
committed to is individual freedom and options.
- But I believe we must overcome that. And we must believe that God will bless
us when we are fully committed to him.
- The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the
home of the righteous. - Proverbs 3:33
Why is it so important to evaluate our commitments?
- My commitments reveal my values.
- If I spend my time, energy, focus, mind and heart into that which
is really important to meÖso how I order my life...what I am committed
to reveals what my values really are, regardless of my claims.
- My commitments shape my character.
- As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. - Proverbs 23:7
- Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of
life. - Proverbs 4:23
- I can determine the type of person I will become by carefully choosing
what I commit myself to.
- My commitments determine my destiny.
- Every time I make a choice, it directs my steps. My steps, though
small and incremental is determining my pathway and my pathway leads
me into my future...ultimately my eternal future.
- What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit
his soul?- Mark 8:36 (NIV)
- And how do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose
your own soul in the process? - Mark 8:36 (NLT
Conclusion
Daniel's life of commitment (Daniel 6:1-28)
- He refused to compromise his standards.
- He sought God's assistance.
- He faced the ramifications of his decisions.
- He accepted God's grace.
- He received God's blessings.
- He made a tremendous impact on others.
