Life requires balance!
Scriptures on balance
- When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers, but a man of understanding
and knowledge maintains order. - Proverbs 28:2
- Even a nation in disorder is unstable...so it is in our lives. Where
disorder reigns, we find instability in our personal lives.
- "For God is not a God of disorder, but of peace." -
1 Corinthians 14:32
- God wants things to be in balance both in the church and in our personal
lives.
Results of Imbalance:
What does the Bible say about how to balance our lives?
And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
- Luke 2:52
- This passage is referring to Jesus in his young life. This statement is
recorded about Jesus right after his return from his trip to Jerusalem where
he was noticed to be missing. His parents found him at the temple reasoning
with the Priests.
- We don't see Jesus again in scripture until he is a grown man but what
was going on in the mean time? He was growing and maturing and he becomes
the model of how to put your life together in proper balance.
- These four characteristics of Jesus' growth is our model for growth. When
these areas are in order in our lives, we will find balance that leads to
fulfillment.
Four Areas of Needed Balance:
- Mentally - Jesus grew in wisdom...
- Don't be conformed to this world but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind. - Romans 12:2
- As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. Do you want to change
the course of your life? Change what you think.
- Physically - Jesus grew in wisdom and stature...
- You're bought with a price therefore you're not your own...therefore
glorify God in your body. - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
- We need to understand that our bodies are truly the temple of the
Holy Spirit and there is a connection between how we treat our bodies
and the balance of our lives.
- Spiritually- Jesus grew is wisdom and in stature and in favor with
God...
- Grow in grace and knowledge of your Lord Jesus Christ. -
2 Peter 3:18
- Only the balance of the head and the heart will produce true spiritual
growth...spirituality is more than head knowledge, it is growing
to be more like Jesus in attitude and action.
- In Galatians 5:22-23, we have a picture of a perfect emotionally
balanced person. It says "The fruit of the Spirit is love,
joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and self-
control." Those nine qualities are the qualities of spiritual
maturity and emotional balance.
- Socially - Jesus grew is wisdom and in stature and in favor with God
and man.
- "Live in harmony with one another." - Romans 12:16
- I looked up the word "balance" in Webster's dictionary.
It says the definition is this, "When all of the parts are
in harmony."
- "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at
peace with everybody." - Romans 12:18
- As far as it depends on you. That's social balance.
Conclusion
- We must take inventory to keep our lives in balance.
- The wisdom of the prudent is to give thought to their ways, but
the folly of fools is deception. - Proverbs 14:8
