Rock Formation
Characters of the story
- John the Baptist
- His mission was to ready the Israelites for the coming Messiah (John
1:36).
- Andrew, John's disciple
- He went to find his brother Simon and brought him to Jesus (John 1:41).
- Simon
- He is renamed by Jesus as Cephas (Peter) (John 1:42).
- Cephas (aramaic) or Peter (greek) translate as "rock."
- We don't think of him as "rock-like," but Jesus knew
he could form him into a Rock.
What are some of the traits Peter possessed that gave him Rock potential?
- He was willing to listen.
- He conquered his fears.
- He was a man of action.
Conclusion
Formation of a Rock
- God isn't look so much at what you are...he is looking at what you can
become.
- Peter might not have been a rock in the beginning but through the power
of God, that is what he became.
