Luke 15 - "the gospel in a gospel"
We have revealed to us:
- God's role as a concerned and loving Father to mankind.
- Jesus' passion for the lost.
- The many ways that mankind finds itself in need of a Savior.
- The church's role in receiving sinners.
- For the lost, it shows the way to find home.
The purpose of the parables
- The Pharisees are curious (Luke 15:1-2)
- It's more than curiosity - it is disgust, disdain, and derision.
- "But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered..."
- Luke 15:2
- They could not figure out why Jesus would spend time with the prostitutes,
the tax collectors, or the others who were considered outcasts.
- People are lost.
- While the Pharisees saw them as people who weren't worthy of help,
Jesus saw them as those who didn't know where they were or where they
were going.
- Jesus seeks the lost.
- "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost."
- Luke 19:10
Conclusion
Amazing Grace
- “Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me...
I once was lost but now am found, Was
blind, but now, I see.”
