January 29, 2006
Speaker: Randal Myers

Faith

If we never extend ourselves, we will never accomplish much for God.

  • Hall of Faith in Hebrews (Hebrews 11)
    • Noah built the ark even though it had never rained.
  • If we don't step out on faith, God can't do anything through us.

2 Corinthians 13:5

  • Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith. (NIV)
  • Examine yourselves to see if your faith is really genuine. (NLB)
    • What is your faith in?

Are you really living in faith?

  • We live by faith, not by sight. - 2 Corinthians 5:7

Snapshot of Faith in Action

Matthew 14:25-33

  • Peter was willing to expose himself to further Jesus.

Walking by Faith

  • Peter thought outside the boat.
    • Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." - Matthew 14:28
      • We tend to stick with tradition
      • The church needs those who see the "BIG" picture.
  • Peter sought the call.
    • "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." - Matthew 14:28
      • Peter basically asked, "Is this your will for me?
  • Peter took a risk
    • Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. - Matthew 14:29
      • He didn't test the water first, he just went.
      • He wasn't paralyzed by his fears or others with him.

Conclusion

Everything is possible for him who believes. - Mark 9:23

  • What is possible for you?
