Unclaimed Blessings
Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him
Jabez, saying, "I gave birth to him in pain." Jabez cried out to the God of
Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand
be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain."
Make 2006 the B.E.S.T. Year Ever!
- "B" stands for Bless me - "Jabez cried out to the God
of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me..." (1 Chronicles 4:10)
- Are we brave enough to ask for blessings?
- You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask,
you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you
may spend what you get on your pleasures. - James 4:2-3
- We desire to receive whatever God is willing for us to have that would
really be a blessing to us.
- "E" stands for Expand my opportunities - Jabez cried out
to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory!"
(1 Chronicles 4:10)
- Everyone we know, everyone we meet, every house on our street...that's
our territory.
- "S" stands for Stand with me - "Oh, that you would bless
me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me"
- The wise person realizes that he can never do in his own strength
what he could do in the strength of God.
- Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we
ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us,
to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all
generations, for ever and ever! Amen. - Ephesians 3:20-21
- "T" stands for Take away the negative influences - Jabez
cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge
my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I
will be free from pain."
- This is seeking God to remove the limitations, the things that are
holding him back.
- ...let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that
so easily entangles... - Hebrews 12:1
Conclusion
The greatest part of Jabaz' prayer...the last six words - And God granted
his request.
