"The Most Important Decision"
What comes to mind?
- The college you'll attend?
- The career you'll pursue?
- Your husband or wife?
- To follow God's will?
Joshua 24:14-18
"Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away
the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve
the LORD. But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for
yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers
served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are
living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."
Then the people answered, "Far be it from us to forsake the LORD to serve
other gods! It was the LORD our God himself who brought us and our fathers
up out of Egypt, from that land of slavery, and performed those great signs
before our eyes. He protected us on our entire journey and among all the nations
through which we traveled. And the LORD drove out before us all the nations,
including the Amorites, who lived in the land. We too will serve the LORD,
because he is our God."
The people make an important decision - to follow God.
However, read just a few chapters further and you'll find God is very displeased
with the Israelites.
- You'll find that they are not being blessed by God.
- You'll find them worshiping idols and living in rebellion to the word
of God.
- You'll find God allowing them to be defeated and taken into slavery.
Your Most Important Decision is - The NEXT One!
When making decisions, remember:
- There are dangers in this world...proceed with caution.
- Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around
like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. - 1 Peter 5:8
- Assume nothing to be as it seems.
- There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads
to death. - Proverbs 14:12
- Don't ignore the warning signs.
- The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to
advice. - Proverbs 12:15
