ìLove One Anotherî
(vs. 1)
Angry words! O let them never
From my tongue unbridled slip;
May the heart's best impulse ever
Check them ere they soil the lip.
(vs. 3)
Angry words are lightly spoken,
bitterest thoughts are rashly stirred,
brightest links of life are broken
by a single angry word.
Bridle the Tongue
The tongue is powerfulÖ
- It is difficult to control
- James 3: 2-5; Matt. 12:34-35
- It has power to do good and evil
- Proverbs 15:1; 15:2; 15:4
The advantages of restraint
- Avoids Sin
- Keeps us out of trouble
- We appear wise
- Maintains relationships
How can it be used?
- If for good, our words can be
- Sweet to the soul (Prov. 16:24)
- A thing of beauty (Prov. 25:11)
- But if for evilóbeware!
- judged by our words (Matt. 12:36-37)
- defiles our bodies (James 3:6)
(vs. 2)
Love is much too pure and holy,
Friendship is too sacred far,
For a moment's reckless folly
Thus to desolate and mar.
The Importance of Friendship and Love
The blessings of friendship
- Ruth 1:16-17
- I Samuel 18:1
- John 19:26-27
- 2 Timothy 1:1-4
The need to love one another
- Our Savior teaches us to do so
- It is a ìblestî command
The Crux of the Matter
Our relationships are too holyótoo sacredó to destroy with reckless words.
(vs. 4)
Let our words be sweetly spoken
Let kind tho'ts be greatly stirred;
Show our love to one another
With abundance of kind words.
ìLove one anotherî,
Thus saith the Savior;
Children obey the Father's blest command;
ìLove one anotherî,
Thus saith the Savior;
Children obey the blest command.
