Jesus Loves MeBy: Keith Walmsley ìLet the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.î - Matthew 10:19 Why does Jesus say the kingdom of God belongs to children? Sometimes, we have the tendency to view our children as being incapable of understanding the love that Christ has for us. Recently, I witnessed a small child inquisitively viewing a painting of Jesus. This child, not sure of whom the painting was portraying, hurried to ask the nearest adult and readily waited for an answer. Upon learning this painting was Jesus, the child fully embraced the picture, gave a gentle squeeze, and puckered up her tiny lips to follow with a kiss. What a wonderful example of how a small child may understand more about Christ's love than what we give them credit for.
With the hustle and bustle of daily life, we as adults can easily forget the love that Christ has for us. Our children can serve as an example of this Christ-like love in many situations and on numerous occasions. The song, ìJesus Loves Me,î is often referred to as a ìchildren's song,î and usually the song of choice in the younger Sunday school classes. The lyrics are simple and to the point, but very important for people of all ages to take to heart and remember each and every day. The next time you sing ìJesus Loves Me,î remember that He loves you so much the He gave His life up on a cross for YOU ! I pray that we as ìgrown-upsî can become more like children because as Jesus said, ìI tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter itî (Mark 10:15).
