Independence Day

By: Randal Myers

It's Independence Day! We should celebrate! Who in their right mind wouldn't be grateful to all those who made this day possible? There is Freedom in the land and on this very special day we acknowledge, not only our Freedom, but Freedom everywhere for all mankind. We present ourselves as the model of Freedom for the whole world. Those who experience a true taste of the Freedom we experience will stop at nothing to gain their own Freedom. Maybe our job is to spread the cause of Freedom around the world.

"Happy Independence Day!"

What? Oh you thought I was talking about the Fourth of July?! No, you got it all wrong. Maybe some of what I said could apply to that, but what I was talking about was the original Independence Day...the first day of the week when Jesus burst forth from the grave and allowed us true Freedom through his defeat of Satan.

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. (Galatians 5:1)

You, my brothers, were called to be free. (Galatians 5:13 )

Live as free men... (1 Peter 2:16)

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:36)

"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." (Luke 4:18-19)

We are free from sin, free from domination by the evil dictator Satan, free from worry, free from an uncertain future, free from the tyranny of a Law we couldn't keep, free to call God our Father, and free to celebrate our Freedom every Sunday.

The Lord's Day is when we celebrate the Freedom we have in Christ Jesus. So what are you waiting for? Celebrate...it's Independence Day!
