And You Will Be My Witnesses...

By: Randal Myers

Pricilla moved from Wichita Falls to Fort Worth in hopes of pursuing a lifestyle of fame, fortune and excitement. She was a beautiful nineteen year old who had been asked to pose for Playboy magazine. Within six months of arriving, she had her dreams well under way to fulfillment. She had moved in with a divorced lawyer who gave her a high paying secretarial job, a mink coat, and a new convertible.

A booth at the local mall operated by the Community Bible Class a ministry of the church in Ft. Worth caught her attention. She walked over to discover that they were offering bibles to those who registered for the class. She said that she had received one at graduation and never read it, so she wasn't interested in another one. As she walked away, the attendant, Alvin, called to her that if she would read it, it would make her a better person.

To everyone's surprise, she returned to the booth the next week and told them that she had read the first eleven chapters and asked for someone to study the Bible with her. A few weeks later she was baptized into Christ. Having corrected her worldly approach to life, she lost her live-in boyfriend, the convertible and even the mink coat, but she knew she had gained much more.

"Our own story of how Jesus has impacted us may be the greatest evangelistic
tool we possess."

Months of continued growth found Pricilla interested in mission work. She teamed up with trip to the Bahamas and co-taught 30 teenage girls for several days. Although the girls were enthusiastic about the lessons there had been no specific responses. Finally Pricilla put away the class materials and told them her story. She expressed to them her former life's path and how she had decided to give up numerous things to follow Jesus. After hearing her ětestimony,î 25 of those 30 teens decided to make Jesus their Lord.

There are three things I would like to highlight in this true-to-life story:

  1. No one is beyond the reach of Jesus. We should never write someone off as a bad candidate.
  2. Jesus offers fulfillment in life like no other pursuit.
  3. Our own story of how Jesus has impacted us may be the greatest evangelistic tool we possess.

All the religious theory and theology in the world can't replace the voice of one who has experienced the saving grace of God. Let us be open to God and open to others. The results might surprise us all
