What's the Most You Can Do?

By: Tony Griffies

How often has someone had enough confidence in you to share some of his or her deepest concerns or fears?  Do you often find yourself in the role of “confidant”?  Do people say things to you like, “you’re so easy to talk to”?  If so, God has blessed you with an amazing gift—the gift of listening.

Now, how often has something like this happened: you’re in the midst of listening to someone talk through a problem and they turn to you and ask for your help?  What do you do?  As a concerned friend you will often want to do something.  As a Christian, you may offer to also pray for that person.  We will say we’ll pray for the person in need, but our attitude is that of “I can’t do much, but at the very least I’ll pray for you”.  At the very least?  Don’t we mean at the very most?

"It's our Father's will that we should seek Him under all circumstances!"

Prayer is such a powerful helping tool.   When we invoke the power of the God of wonder, our lives will change!  Our situations, our problems, our concerns, our fears—all of these things will take on new light!  People—even Christians—are notorious for leaving prayer out of the search for solution until they have exhausted all other means.  I believe that is backwards.  Prayer should be our first attempt at finding solution.  When we’re faced with challenges, our journey toward discovery should be bathed in prayer.  God expects us to do this.

I Timothy 5:17-18 - “…pray continually;  give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.”

And since it’s our Father’s will that we should seek Him under all circumstances, we need not worry about bringing things to Him.  Often, we try to categorize our problems.  We predetermine what is big enough to carry before God and what isn’t.  Believing lies from Satan brings on this sort of thinking.  Satan wants to convince us that there are certain areas of our lives that we don’t need to bother God with.  That’s absurd!  God isn’t bothered by us.  It’s God’s will that we seek Him.  Instead what we should be telling Satan is that we have the right to approach our Father with whatever concerns we have, and that we can do it in confidence!

Hebrews 4:16 - “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

Are you holding anything back from God right now?  Are you short-circuiting God’s desires to work in you and through you?  Are you sheepishly approaching God saying, “Um... Sir… if it’s not too much trouble, could you, possibly...?”    Stand up!  Walk into the throne room with your head held high, knowing it’s your Father whom you’re going to speak with!  He wants to hear from you.
