Are Your Wires Crossed?

By: Tony Griffies

I love my mom and dad.  Shocking, isn't it?  I can see it now... "Next on Springer: kids who actually love their parents." Seriously, I've learned a great deal about life from my parents.  They have taught me many things over the years, and I'm sure the lessons are still coming.  So it's fun -- even a little amusing -- when mom or dad come to me for advice or directions on how to do something.  I've been asked on many occasions to explain their computer problems or reconnect their stereo or tell them why they can no longer record anything on their VCR.  More times than not, it's a simply wiring problem. One cable or patch cord got put in the wrong slot on some component, and that kept my parents from being able to do something they wanted to.

"The answer to handling all of the noise in your life is to focus your attention FIRST on God."

Our lives are so similar.  When our walk with God suffers, every other aspect of our lives goes south.  Think about it.   Christians who have their lives centered on God are much better equipped to handle the stresses of life.  However, when that one crucial, heavenly connection gets twisted, misdirected, or even severed, life can feel like it is spiraling out of control!  It’s no accident that Matthew 6:33 reads the way it reads.  "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."  Jesus knew that our lives would be supercharged with stress, temptation, commotion, emotion and "noise."  However, the answer to handling all of the noise in your life and my life is to focus our attentions FIRST on God -- seek HIM first in all we do, and the rest of life will fall into place.
